“EUROBENCH gave us the opportunity to include our work into a well-established and solid framework”

Why to participate in the FSTP-2 EUROBENCH open call?

EUROBENCH is a great opportunity to access a unique facility, to test one’s hypotheses, and to join the EUROBENCH team in a still relatively early stage. This initiative will gain great momentum over time, and our Consortium is proud to have been given a chance to give our contribution to initiative”

BENCH, as the name itself says, is about creating an instrumented device to be used for evaluating sit-to-stand (STS) motion in humans. It consists of a non-conductive, adjustable frame equipped with sensors that allow to calculate the inverse dynamics for the STS gesture. The hardware is completed by an A/D converter that transmits the data to a computer. From the data a series of metrics (e.g., time to execute 5 complete cycles, seat and stand stability, load transfer speed and so on) are extracted and presented to the user.

Regarding the FSTP-1 call, the application process was smooth and easy. We felt heard and taken care of. We had the chance of discussing our project and the modalities of submission extensively prior to the closing of the call, which gave us plenty of time to prepare a good project.

We were interested in creating a device that would be useful for patients, as well as for ameliorating human-robot interaction models, and EUROBENCH was an ideal opportunity to concretely (and timely) receive sufficient resources to make it happen.

EUROBENCH gave us the opportunity to include our work into a well-established and solid framework. During the whole duration of the process we have been constantly in touch with our coach, Roberto Conti, as well as with the members of the consortium. We are now looking forward to the integration phase.

Due to COVID outbreak we had to substantially delay the construction of our prototype (now fully operative) and the collection of human data, prior to its deployment in Madrid. We aim at completing the data collection and processing and move the device to its final destination as soon as possible.

EUROBENCH is a great opportunity to access a unique facility, to test one’s hypotheses, and to join the EUROBENCH team in a still relatively early stage of this new benchmarking scheme. We expect this initiative will gain great momentum over time, and our Consortium is proud to have been given a chance to give our contribution to initiative.
