In this sub-project we explored the effectiveness of existing and novel balance stability criteria in predicting the subjects balance during simple postural tasks. The balance stability criteria considered are those formulated in the Center of Mass (COM) state space, in which a region of balance is defined. The sub-project goals are to use the facilities and experiments to: (1) validate the prediction of the regions of balance (2) exploring whether some posture models give better prediction than others (3) collect subject-specific data for the further refinement of customized human posture models and associated regions of balance and (4) use the experimental results for a preliminary evaluation and comparison of different types of balance performance indicators (balance PIs) when the subject is exposed to different experimental conditions.
